Fecundity Definition:

The Fecundity is a process in which an individual able to generate an abundance of offspring by fertility. The word Fecund means the capability of production of offspring. It means that the capacity of production of offspring in great numbers, especially in female species. Fecundities are the measurement of numbers of offspring produced by an individual, especially female individual, over time. It is also known as Reproductive Rate of an individual. It refers to a number of offspring which produced successfully.

In sexual reproduction, gametes of two organisms must interact with each other and the process of fertilization occurs. Then the embryo develops and birthed into a zygote, or from seed, an egg or directly from the mother. In the animals, the fecundities rate have an inverse relationship between the amounts of their offspring cared for by their parents. Mammals produce fewer offspring but give a lot of care and spent their energy and time for their offspring. The fecundity rate of plants can be measured by their seed studies. The plants with few energy-rich seeds have low fecundity rate, as the chestnut tree has low fecundity rate but have a good chance for survival. While the plants with energy-rich seed have a high fecundity rate such as orchids produce many seeds which have low energy with less chance of survival.
